Plans toward GROOM RI data management road map.
Upon registration, the organizing committee will send you the necessary information.
These workshops aim to bring key stakeholders at the table to share their thoughts about these two important topics in the perspective of designing a data management road map for the GROOM RI. GROOM National Focal Point, representatives of DAC and GDAC, National Marine Data Centers, SeaDataNet, EMODNET, Copernicus IN SITU TAC, Coriolis, “heavy data aggregators” and Marine Research Infrastructure Representatives are invited to participate.
Note : Extra workshop focusing on delayed mode data could be added to the agenda later in the month.
DETAILED AGENDA FOR WEEK #2
Tuesday 5th July
14:00 – 16.00 CEST
(Re)designing the distributed data infrastructure in Europe (National DAC, GDAC) in the context of EuroGOOS GTT and GROOM RI ?
Driven by European projects and strong involvement of key members, the glider data infrastructure in Europe has been growing organically since 10 years. With the growing interest in the glider technology and the increasing number of glider groups involved in the EuroGOOS glider task team, the glider data infrastructure is now reaching a plateau.
Despite strong efforts to harmonize, document and operationalize the procedures, the current distributed data management system is not at the level of the standard of a European Research Infrastructure.
With this workshop we aim to engage the discussion toward redesigning the data infrastructure in Europe. The role of National Marine Data Centers, Data Assembly Center, Coriolis (Global Data Assembly Center), EuroGOOS GTT and GROOM RI in this context will be interrogated and clarified. The flows toward key European infrastructures, EMODNET, SeaDataNet and Copernicus Marine Services will also be examined to draw a long term road map for GROOM RI and broader European glider community.
Thursday 7th July
14:00 – 16.00 CEST
How to expand the GROOM RI data management capacity to the “new” data type collected by Gliders in Europe?
GROOM RI will enable the use of gliders to serve Ocean observation for research, operational services and innovation. The capacity of gliders to deploy innovative instrument acquiring data that does not fall under the scope of the classic glider data infrastructure makes it necessary to consider the question of the data management for unconventional data. What is the role of the GROOM RI regarding data like images, videos, sound, sample, etc. ? How the unconventional data acquired by GROOM RI members will be stored, distributed, archived and processed ? Who will be in charge of that data ?
In this workshop, we will try to imagine a data infrastructure, not for classical variables, but for “unconventional” glider observations in the context of GROOM RI.
